About

Much of the strength of the Big Ten Academic Alliance comes from the shared knowledge of faculty learning from each other. In 2014 Dr. Ann Clements and Dr. Darrin Thornton of Penn State University created the Collaborative Music Ed Series. Within this series, music education professors worked together to develop content and record TED-style short videos designed to provide a more enriching experience for both students and faculty across the consortium’s universities and to provide a professional social network of future music educators. Putting together such an extensive collective effort has been no small task, but as faculty member, Ann Clements said, “It demonstrates that faculty from across the CIC really do want to share their expertise to develop collaborative teaching tools and learning environments that propel the entire field forward.” The videos were originally accompanied by additional resources, discussion questions, extension activities, and digital badges. This amazing resource can be integrated into undergraduate music ed courses in a variety of ways but can now be found as a collection of individual videos freely available through YouTube.com.
